Description

Since 1969, Environmental Science Associates (ESA) has been a leader in the environmental review and analysis field in California.  A 100% employee-owned independent firm, ESA has over 260 staff and 11 offices in four states, primarily in the West.  The company's culture is one that values individual initiative and achievement, coupled with the recognition that one's overall success is only made complete by the success of the team in a collegial work environment.  ESA has an ambitious but measured growth plan that includes expanding both within its existing regions and into new regions.

Position Overview:

ESA is offering a rare career opportunity for the right individual as Director of the firm's Southern California Energy and Industrial Services group. This senior level position allows for continuing professional growth through expansion of ESA's well-established Energy and Industrial Practice, providing an opportunity to build upon experienced staff and longstanding client relationships. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and dynamic senior level planner or scientist who will help build and lead a Southern California team.

Responsibilities:

Business development responsibilities include:

  • Develop an expanded client base in the energy/industrial market
  • Generate new projects with existing clients
  • Lead proposal efforts and interviews
  • Participate in appropriate professional associations and conferences

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate should have experience working on a range of environmental management projects for energy and industrial infrastructure, including electric transmission lines, natural gas pipelines, refineries, geothermal, and wind/solar projects.  The candidate should also have a strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental and regulatory developments, including the Clean Air Act, the California Environmental Quality Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other laws and regulations applicable to resource management.

We will consider individuals possessing broad-based experience with California's energy and industrial infrastructure, permitting/entitlement, and environmental management systems.  Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities, experience in marketing and business development, supervisory and mentoring skills, recognized technical and academic credentials, and strong writing and communication skills.

Requirements:

The qualified candidate will have 10-15 years of increasingly responsible experience in consulting and/or in a public agency.  Requires at minimum a Bachelor's degree in environmental planning or environmental science, resource management or other related field. A Master's or other advanced degree is highly desirable.

The successful candidate could be based in our existing Los Angeles, Woodland Hills, or San Diego offices.

This position offers opportunities for career growth, for leadership in developing new services as well as expanding existing services for one of California's oldest and most successful environmental consulting firms and to join the management team responsible for ESA's continuing growth in staff, revenue and geographic reach.

Compensation: Competitive salary, 10-25% bonus (based on achievement of performance goals), 401(k), medical/health benefits, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) (annual contribution of up to 15% of salary).
