Position Overview:
We seek an experienced energy engineer to assist with the firm's energy efficiency assignments, develop and manage client relationships, help develop junior engineering talent, and help grow SEAs existing building services business.
Existing building services consist of energy auditing, retro-commissioning, HVAC and process system evaluations, and LEED EBOM support. SEA assignments include multi-tenant and corporate office buildings, retail facilities, multi-family residential, healthcare, K-12 schools, higher education, warehouse and distribution, restaurants, and manufacturing facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive energy audits to identify and prioritize Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs); provide cost analysis of ECMs and other energy audit data emphasizing our clients return on investment
- Evaluation of building control systems and BAS performance
- Collect and analyze building system data
- Analyze mechanical systems and recommend how to optimize performance
- Review architectural drawings
- Interact with client staff and client principals
- Develop written reports that convey technical information in narrative form
- Participate in a diverse range of demand-side consulting projects
- Provide leadership and mentoring for engineering staff
- Assisting in marketing and selling energy efficiency services
Qualifications:
Required Technical Skills:
- 4-year mechanical engineering degree (required); advanced degree preferred
- Understand and apply mechanical engineering principles for HVAC applications
- Audit energy consuming equipment and diagnose problems
- Experienced with energy modeling for new and existing buildings
- Analyze field data and energy consumption data
- Understanding of utility rates and utility billing protocols
- Experience applying energy engineering principles to LEED certification protocols
- Financial and statistical analysis
- Familiarity with on-going and/or monitoring-based (data-driven) commissioning practices
- Familiarity with HVAC control systems
Required Communication Skills:
The position requires excellent written and oral abilities to:
- Maintain relationships with clients
- Write technical and non-technical reports
- Give client presentations
- Write proposals
Required Business Skills:
- Self--directed and able to work in teams
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience with selling energy efficiency services
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
- Ability to succeed in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment
- Provide high-level Client Service, direction and ongoing support
Desirable Credentials / Skills
- Familiarity with ComEd commercial customer incentive programs
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
- LEED AP
- Experience with Energy Simulation Software such as Visual DOE, DOE 2.1E, eQuest, or equivalent
