Association for Energy Affordability (AEA) is a nonprofit energy services and training organization with the mission to promote energy affordability through energy efficiency. AEA is a New York based company with regional offices in the San Francisco Bay Area. Energy audits are completed through AEA's participation in a variety of state, federal and local energy efficiency initiatives.
Position Overview:
Under supervision of the Director of Technical Services, the Energy Engineer independently conducts energy audits of small to large multifamily and commercial buildings. He or she engages in research, data analysis, software modeling and report production as needed to complete the energy assessment process.

Responsibilities:
The Energy Engineer is responsible for conducting energy assessments as directed, which includes the following responsibilities.
- Conduct energy audits and in-field energy assessments.
- Make site visits to engage in data collection and analysis.
- Perform energy modeling and building simulations using dedicated energy modeling software packages.
- Prepare energy assessment reports based on analytic findings which include detailed equipment specifications and cost savings analysis.
- Conduct technical peer review, providing comments and preparing energy assessment reports.
- Perform solar energy feasibility assessments.
- May be asked to conduct trainings both internally and publically on energy efficiency technology and energy auditing principles.
These job responsibilities may be revised over time to ensure the functional responsiveness of the Energy Engineer to AEA and Federal and California State program requirements. 2
Qualifications:
- 2 to 4 years experience in multifamily and/or commercial building energy engineering.
- College degree (B.A. or B.S. in Engineering) with a demonstrated interest in energy conservation preferred.
- Knowledge of building systems including lighting technologies, building envelope, mechanical systems and combustion science.
- Ability to perform cost savings analyses and fuel data analyses.
- Experience with the use of EnergyPro software preferred.
- Home Energy Rating Systems (HERS and HERS II) rater certification preferred.
- Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software, including Excel but also Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Good organizational skills with ability to manage projects from initiation to conclusion while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in conducting audits.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact well with others in the field and in an office environment.
- Research skills and experience with the ability to produce technical reports.
- Knowledge of additional energy modeling software a plus, i.e., TREAT, EA-QUIP, Equest, DOE II programs.
- Experience with Combined Heat and Power and Photovoltaic projects a plus.
Compensation: Projected Salary Range: Competitive; commensurate with experience
