WESCO, a Fortune 500 Electrical Distributor headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, is looking for a strong candidate to join our Sustainability Team.
Position Overview:
The energy and sustainability specialist would support WESCO's efforts to reduce both energy consumption and energy costs, and drive environmental mitigation efforts as part of WESCO's sustainability initiative.
Responsibilities:
Energy procurement:
Under this task, the energy and sustainability specialist would support WESCO's negotiation of utility contracts. Negotiation would include competitive bidding of utility contracts in deregulated markets and an exploration of alternative utility purchasing and incentive programs.
Demand-side management:
Under this task, the energy and sustainability specialist would look to engage WESCO facilities in demand-side management opportunities. Through these programs, WESCO would engage in "peak shaving" and "load shifting" to take advantage of lower utility rates. Specialist would be responsible for identifying programs, making the business case to invest, and working with branches to implement the required technology and management practices to take advantage of these programs.
Increase customer bulb recycling:
Under this task, the energy and sustainability specialist would work with WESCO branches and distribution centers to increase our recycling of fluorescent bulbs. With customers making the upgrade from T12 to T8 (federally mandated as of July, 2012), bulb recycling business should increase dramatically. WESCO can leverage existing infrastructure to manage the bulb recycling for our customers through reverse logistics strategies.
Pursuing on-site renewable energy opportunities:
Under this task, the energy and sustainability specialist would work with the renewables team and the sustainability manager to pursue on-site renewable energy projects.
Other duties could include:
- Support for waste mitigation efforts: Support the supplier relations team and branches in WESCO's waste reduction efforts.
- Support for supply chain packaging reduction efforts: Support the sustainability manager in reaching out to suppliers as part of a packaging reduction effort.
- Support for energy efficiency facility upgrades: Support Facilities Manager and Director of Real Estate in identifying energy efficiency upgrade opportunities in WESCO facilities.
- Support ENERGY STAR program engagement and associated marketing efforts: Support sustainability manager and WESCO branches in achieving ENERGY STAR building status.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in engineering, environmental science/policy, of business/finance. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years experience in energy, sustainability, or a related field.
- Familiarity with utility energy programs, including energy procurement in deregulated markets and demand-side management program opportunities preferred.
- Experience in renewable energy (project support, financing, policy) preferred.
- Experience with energy efficiency programs, with a focus on technology.
- Familiarity with supply chain logistics and LEAN process improvement strategies preferred.
Compensation: This is a full-time, contract position. Salary commensurate with experience.
