The Institute for Sustainability Planning and Governance is part of the Municipal Land Use Center (MLUC) at The College of New Jersey. MLUC manages a number of cutting edge research and outreach programs focused on sustainable development, including the award winning Sustainable Jersey Certification Program, a USEPA Climate Showcase Communities Project, and the Program on Mobility and Community Form. Our mission is to advance sustainable development through research, outreach, and training. We work with local, state, and federal government, as well as the private sector, to help decision makers develop better capacity to understand the long term consequences of their actions.
Position Overview:
The Institute for Sustainability Planning and Governance, part of the Municipal Land Use Center and the College of New Jersey, seeks an experienced and motivated person to join our team as a researcher and project coordinator. SPG is a "think and do" tank that works to advance understanding and implementation of best practices that will lead to sustainable development.
Responsibilities:
The coordinator will report to the Co-Director of the Institute, and will be responsible for coordinating project activities and personnel, interfacing with project participants, independent report writing and analysis, participating in project design with senior staff and performing applied research tasks.
A specific early task of the position will be to lead an effort to help local governments take advantage of new financing mechanisms to do building efficiency upgrades and alternative energy generation projects. This will entail researching and developing best practices and recommendations for local governments, coordinating with experts and outside partners to gather information and expertise on best practices, designing and implementing outreach strategies, and providing support to local governments.
In addition, the position will provide support for the varied portfolio of projects at the Institute. The position deals with highly specialized technical, economic, and policy topics associated with research and outreach on energy and sustainable development.
Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor's degree in planning and/or public policy, economics, environmental science, management, or other relevant discipline plus at least 3 years of relevant professional experience. An advanced degree is strongly preferred. Specific experience with energy efficiency, renewable energy, government purchasing, and public financing (specifically energy and efficiency financing) are a strong plus.
