Education Program Coordinator

~ At the McDowell Environmental Center, our curriculum is more than a walk in the woods although it may start there. ~

We believe experiential classes help students to better understand the natural world, leading them to a sense of responsibility for it. Focused on basic ecological concepts, the curriculum is hands-on and our classroom is the great outdoors, giving students the greatest opportunity to learn about themselves and their environment.

Topics covered can include:

• Forest Communities
• Map & Compass
• Water Ecology
• Earth Science
• Group Dynamics
• Canoeing

Position Overview

Join our team of full-time educators helping to bring a residential environmental education experience to learners in the Southeast. 

Responsibilities Include:

• This position works closely with our visiting teachers, providing logistics and support for them before their trip, coordinating with them during the trip, and planning their next visit to the McDowell Environmental Center.
• You'll also be part of the team responsible for seasonal staff training and management, curriculum development and maintenance, and marketing and outreach to help bring our program to learners across the state of Alabama. 

Qualifications

• Interested candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher, experience in environmental education, and administrative/support experience.
• We expect you to have an affinity for children, a desire to be outside (and to bring that passion to everyone you meet), to take initiative and work independently, to be organized, and to work well in a collaborative team environment.
