Position Overview:
Earth Day Network (EDN) is looking to hire an Education Organizer for Earth Day 2012. The position will be responsible for managing 3 of EDN's campaigns: Earth Day K-12, Earth Day University, and Reading for the Earth. The Education Organizer will work with students, faculty, and librarians to engage their communities in Earth Day activities and expand the environmental movement. The Education Organizer will be responsible for the growth of our national network of K-12 schools, colleges, and libraries.
We seek an energetic and dynamic individual who is a proven self-starter and is capable of managing numerous tasks and helping us achieve our goal of expanding the environmental movement.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement campaign strategies, messaging, plans, and projects for Earth Day K-12, Earth Day University, and Reading for the Earth
- Identify, coordinate, develop, and implement partnerships with K-12 schools, colleges, and libraries in the US and other countries
- Develop and coordinate events, activities, community service, etc. for campaigns
- Regularly report on progress of the campaigns and ensure that goals and objectives are met in a timely fashion
- Create materials that are relevant to the campaign audience
- Assist Earth Day 2012 staff in successful implementation of programs and office activities
- Recruit, hire, and manage a team of at least 5 interns
- Register Earth Day events and activities at K-12 schools, colleges, and libraries
- Coordinate with the communications team to implement social networking and other online tools and web strategizing for national organizing.
- Additional activities as identified by the Earth Day Director
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Strength in multi-tasking, goal-setting, workload prioritization and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proven track record of being detail oriented, with good organizational skills and follow-through
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and ease in working cooperatively with diverse individuals, youth and adults, while maintaining a high level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity
- Enthusiastic, positive attitude that works well on a team
- Self-motivated with good leadership skills and the ability to work under pressure
- A strong interest in, or working knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues
- Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
- A proven self-starter who has experience managing successful campaigns and projects
- Education background and/or teaching experience is a plus
The Program Coordinator position is open, effectively immediately, and will extend to May 15, 2012.
