Description

~ Founded in 1977 during the oil crisis, the Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders that promotes energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment & greater energy security. ~

Position Overview

The Education Manager shall provide day-to-day leadership for at least two Alliance projects: the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) PowerSave Schools Program, and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) Energy Efficiency Career Exploration Program, and may provide support for additional programs as well, including remote support and in-person training for other programs within and outside of California.

The employee will work remotely from the Los Angeles metro area, reporting to the Alliance to Save Energy's Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement based in Washington, DC. 

Responsibilities 

Primary Responsibilities for LADWP Program: 

  • Be directly responsible for coordinating and supporting school teams' program implementation and activities at 15 LADWP schools (both returning and first-year schools), including working with teams of teachers, administrators, custodians, and students to create and carry out their PowerSave Schools plan
  • Participate with Alliance staff to plan, coordinate, and modify the LADWP PowerSave Schools Program, as needed
  • Coordinate monthly/bi-weekly in-person school visits with school teams to provide additional resources and/or troubleshoot challenges
  • Meet with district administrators (energy managers, facilities managers, principals, etc.), as needed
  • Provide ongoing phone and email support to the school teams and district administrators
  • Assist teams in locating energy saving opportunities at their schools
  • Assist in coordinating three meetings throughout the 2016-17 school year:
  1. Fall Professional Development Workshop: Plan and conduct a half-day workshop for adult team members
  2. Winter Mid-Year Meeting: Plan and conduct an after-school meeting, convening all school teams in January/February
  3. Spring End-of-Year Celebration: Plan and conduct afternoon/evening celebratory event to reward students, teachers, and schools for their work on the project in May
  • Assist in and/or coordinate community events to promote energy efficiency and support schools to facilitate or organize career activities (a minimum of one career activity per school)
  • Coordinate and assist in arranging logistics for Student Energy Audit Training (SEAT) workshops
  • Distribute, collect, and analyze paperwork from educators about their progress
  • Respond to and assist with media opportunities
  • Conduct other activities as opportunities develop
  • Provide detailed monthly reports on school activities and progress to headquarters staff 

Primary Responsibilities for SMUD Program:

  • Be directly responsible for coordinating and supporting 8-10 school teams' program implementation, including business outreach and mentoring of sister schools in an Alliance program on the East coast
  • Participate with Alliance staff to plan, coordinate, and modify the SMUD Program, as needed
  • Make four week-long site visits to Sacramento, to include all 8-10 participating schools, to support student teams for:
  1. Audit walk-through
  2. Business outreach training
  3. Mentoring presentation training
  4. Final presentation preparation
  • Support schools remotely to provide additional resources and/or troubleshoot challenges, as needed
  • Respond to and assist with media opportunities
  • Conduct other activities as opportunities develop
  • Provide detailed monthly reports on school activities and progress to headquarters staff 

Qualifications 

Requirements: 

  • At least 4 years experience working with students in an educational setting
  • Environmental/energy experience preferred
  • 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
  • Masters in education, curriculum development, or environmental studies preferred
  • Strong initiative in undertaking routine assignments/projects without direct supervision
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills 

Compensation: Salary range is $50-60k, based on experience. The Alliance offers a generous benefits package. Consideration of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
