Located in the heart of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Dunes Learning Center provides exceptional, hands-on learning experiences that inspire community, environmental stewardship, and a lifetime of memories. Our innovative educational programs are for everyone- children, teachers, families, community groups, college students, and adults.
Position Overview:
Education Director leads programs and staff for a residential environmental education agency. Programs serve about 5,000 children and adults each year with a staff of 2 lead naturalists and 8-18 naturalist interns.
Responsibilities:
- program monitoring and designing;
- staff recruitment, training, and supervision;
- communication with schools and other groups;
- budget oversight;
- and some program marketing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Education, Environmental Nature Interpretation, Environmental Science, or a related environmental or education field is required. A Master's Degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years experience in residential environmental education or other experiential environmental education, including summer camps.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Ability to inspire and teach children and young adult interns.
- Proven leadership and management skills.
- Flexibility in a changing work environment.
- Knowledge of environmental education curriculum and programs.
- Knowledge of the Indiana Dunes environment is preferred.
- Background with nonprofit organizations is preferred.
- Certifications Preferred (not required): First Aid, CPR, water safety.
