Description

Would you like to help design a better world? Are you a writer who wants to provide essential information to people who rely on it for their decisions in commercial design and construction?

BuildingGreen, LLC is an independent company committed to providing accurate, unbiased, and timely information designed to help building-industry professionals and policy makers improve the environmental performance, and reduce the adverse impacts, of buildings.

BuildingGreen, based in Brattleboro, VT, is seeking a full-time editor to join the nation’s oldest and most respected publisher of green building information. The right candidate must be completely comfortable with complex technical information, have at least 3 years of professional writing and editing experience, and have good knowledge of green building technologies and strategies.

Responsibilities:

Writing:

  • Research and write articles for both print and online publications
  • Research and write brief promotional project profiles of LEED projects (includes obtaining images and key performance data).
  • Compile detailed case studies of green projects in DOE’s High Performance Buildings Database.
  • Contribute to Blog with timely, engaging, informalpieces

Editing:

  • Copy edit to ensure consistency with style guide and catch typos.
  • Edit technical reports and white papers.
  • Package articles and other content with headlines, pull-quotes, and other devices to draw readers in.
  • Edit detailed HPB database case studies submitted by others. Editorial tasks include: removing redundant content, correcting spelling and grammar, reorganizing content to fit the database template, checking that data is within reasonable ranges, and assigning green strategies based on narratives.

Online Presentation:

  • Organize web pages to highlight most useful content and frame it effectively using a content management system.
  • Categorize articles and other content by green strategy, LEED credit, and MasterFormat section.

Qualifications:

Can you explain the difference between a kilowatt and a kilowatt-hour? Know the difference between a hanging indent and a hanging participle? Do you have professional experience in taking a jumble of technical jargon and calculations and turning it into clear, concise Web content? Does a passion for sustainable building--and a low tolerance for hype--come along with those skills?
