Description
The Wal-Mart Project is an initiative of Corporate Ethics International (CEI). It is part of a larger long term strategic initiative to change the nature of corporations. The mission of CEI is to bring corporations back in service to the public good by assisting NGOs to conduct successful marketplace campaigns.
The Wal-Mart Project entails recruiting and facilitating the involvement of environmental organizations in an international Wal-Mart campaign that involves many other sectors of the progressive movement including labor, communities, social justice, health, people of color, trade, and socially responsible investors. We expect the Wal-Mart Project to evolve into a longer term strategic initiative dedicated to bringing corporations back in service to the public good by fundamentally changing the ownership, governance, and accountability of corporations.
Location: Ideally Portland, OR (could be virtual)
Pay and Benefits: Extremely competitive with medical, dental, retirement, and vacations
Reports to: Michael Marx, Executive Director, Corporate Ethics International
Responsibilities include:
?Fund raising to support CEI's involvement through individuals and foundations
?Recruiting environmental marketplace organizations to be involved in the campaign
?Recruiting international environmental NGOs to be involved in the campaign
?Coordinating, planning, and facilitating planning meetings with core groups
?Helping the environmental community to set priorities for Wal-Mart engagement
?Working closely with liaison from other progressive sectors to coordinate efforts
?Managing the list serve, quarterly updates, and other campaign communications
?Providing liaison between the environmental "spoke and the "campaign hub"
?Potentially arranging meetings between Wal-Mart and NGOs to negotiate solutions
?Designing a long-term, corporate strategic initiative of which the W-M campaign is a part
?Mediating conflicts, misunderstandings, etc. among campaign member groups
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
?Experience directing a corporate marketplace campaign
?Knowledge of corporations, possibly some experience working inside
?Experience with campaign grassroots and NGO organizing and recruitment
?Experience fund raising from individuals and grant-writing for foundations
?Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and meeting facilitation skills
?Excellent time management and organizational skills
?Excellent writing skills with good research and editing abilities
?Committed to a long-term strategic effort to change the nature of corporations
?Committed to the values of the progressive movement
