~ The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world's leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Director, Value Chain Outreach for its Responsible Care and Value Outreach Department. ~
ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry's research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry's environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
Position Overview
The position is responsible for designing, implementing and executing designated activities, including technical and policy development, within Value Chain Outreach programs.
The position will be a primary interface with key downstream market stakeholders, government agencies and officials, and science organizations on issues related to technical solutions and advocacy positions. The position works closely with key internal staff and external stakeholders and reports directly to the Vice President, Responsible Care and Value Chain Outreach.

Responsibilities
Other key duties and responsibilities of the position include:
- Providing technical support for value chain "tools" and marketplace solutions that include the promotion of risk, science, and life cycle approaches to chemical/material selection in the value chain;
- Serving as a policy resource on relevant value chain issues such as ingredient disclosure and confidential business information, risk and hazard assessment, product certifications and voluntary consensus standards and eco-labels;
- Supporting development of ACC's marketplace portfolio, including synthesizing activities among departments; and
- Participating in the design of ACC advocacy strategies on key value chain technical and policy issues.
Required qualifications include:
- A Bachelor's degree in public policy, science/engineering or related degree and at least 5 years professional work experience, with two years' experience in chemical or related industry or policy organization;
- Strong written and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to give internal and public presentations;
- The ability to work independently on a variety of complex matters simultaneously, lead membership groups, and design strategy, direction and action plans a must.
