Position Overview:
The Director of Sustainability plays a key role within our company's management team, providing both strategic leadership and hands-on, tactical direction to the company's global sustainability efforts.
Possessing the knowledge, skills, and motivation to manage sustainability as a core value of the F+S community, the Director of Sustainability:
- works closely with employees and management teams to ensure that environmental stewardship is integrated and aligned with the company's business objectives;
- develops programs to help employees, work groups and vendors reduce the company's environmental impact;
- leads company-wide efforts to position F+S as a sustainability leader in the global A&D community; and
- oversees development and execution of sustainability-related initiatives to fully leverage the company's successes in sustainable design and social responsibility.
Working in a cross-functional team environment, this position interfaces with multiple company departments including Design, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing and Human Resources. It also interfaces with diverse external clients including customers, vendors, designers and other business partners.
Qualifications:
Exceptional communication skills are a must, as are an interest in and understanding of leading industry topics: green building, sustainable design, alternative energy, urban planning and design, industrial ecology, and environmental science and policy.

S/he is a dynamic leader, a natural communicator and a skilled project manager. S/he shares our commitment to innovative design. And, s/he has a relentless desire to seek out what's new and actively network across domestic and international venues to advance Forms+Surfaces' reputation as an industry sustainability leader.
- BS degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Industrial Ecology, Engineering or a related field
- LEED AP certification preferred
- 5 or more years' professional experience in corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility, supply chain management, project management with a sustainability focus, and/or green building.
- Advanced understanding of manufacturing operations, environmental health and safety, and environmental regulatory compliance.
- In-depth experience in at least 1 environmental sub-field such as carbon accounting, life cycle assessment, or sustainable materials and waste minimization/management programs.
- Familiarity with domestic and international regulations and guidelines pertaining to climate change, air quality, waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency and green building.
- Strong planning, organizational and time management skills. Able to work with complexity and ambiguity, synthesize information rapidly, and balance shifting and competing priorities in a dynamic, entrepreneurial business environment.
- Superior presentation and written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to readily adapt communications to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative team-player. Able to accommodate multiple perspectives and work with others to create innovative solutions to challenging problems.
- Highly motivated self-starter. Demonstrated history of taking initiative and conscientiously following through on all areas of responsibility.
- Strong aptitude for qualitative and analytical thinking.
- Ability to travel.
