B CorporationTM is a new type of corporation which uses the power of business to create public benefit. B CorporationsTM meet high performance and legal standards and build collective voice through the power of the unifying B Corporation brand. As of May 2008, there are over 100 certified B Corporations, representing a diverse $700+ million marketplace. B Lab is the non-profit organization which certifies, promotes, and supports B CorporationsTM.
Position Overview: Deliver services to B Corps which improve financial performance and increase social impact.
Responsibilities:
Develop Service Partnerships: Help attract and retain B Corporations by creating value-added partnerships, similar to the existing relationship with Salesforce.com.
- Identify potential Service Partners, including inter- and intra-community relationships; negotiate Partnership Agreement; extend services to all B Corporations; and roll-out services for maximum impact.
- Potential Service Partnerships: IT (software & hardware), shared benefits platform (health care, 401k), shared distribution platform, basic branding services (graphic design, web development), media partnerships, etc.
Build B2B 'Service Network': Create a facilitated network for B Corporations, fostering a sense of community and providing tangible value through shared knowledge.
- Determine appropriate web/software platform, outsource implementation after a structured RFP process, and oversee the development of the network
- Structure the community to maximize tangible benefits for senior leadership of B Corporations, capturing learning for future reference.
Develop In-House Service Practice: Create an in-house consulting practice, providing subsidized business assistance to B Corporations.
- Create abbreviated business plan, including staffing structure, expense base, hourly rate, and areas of focus
- Staff the team, communicate with B Corporations, implement the business plan, and capture learning for future reference in case study format
Accountability: Report to B Lab Co-Founder, Bart Houlahan
Qualifications:
- Passion for using business to solve social and environmental problems
- High energy, self-managing, entrepreneurial personality
Strong relationship-building, communications, and organizational skills - 10+ years experience in business, preferably as: senior operator in an entrepreneurial business; consultant with high growth, small to medium sized enterprises; director of business development
Compensation: $80-$120k plus benefits depending upon experience
