Position Overview

NBI is currently seeking a Director of Policy Implementation. NBI's efforts are grounded in strong technical analysis, policy and industry relationships, and excellent communication skills and methods.

We are seeking a leadership team member to focus on our building codes and policy implementation work, engage with our staff on the development and delivery of codes and policy projects and support our general project areas.

The 80%-time to full-time position will be located in NBI's new Portland, OR office. NBI will consider candidates located elsewhere dependent on the caliber of experience and relationships within the industry. NBI is involved in projects throughout the US; regular travel will be expected as part of the position. Travel expenses are reimbursed. 


Responsibilities
 

The emphasis for this position is on the following areas: 

  • Engage with policy makers, building industry leaders, clients and colleagues on energy policy, codes and the related technical issues
  • Develop technical research and writing of technical documents
  • Review, develop and draft energy code language
  • Engage with utility clients on codes, policy and program issues and opportunities
  • Provide direction on policy and technical issues related to energy efficiency 
  • Develop of energy policy for cities and states 
  • Integrate policies and codes for energy efficiency and distributed energy resources in low? and zero net energy buildings
  • Prepare for and present at public meetings and technical hearings
  • Prospect for new government, utility and private sector client opportunities
  • Tracking of existing client work and assist in strategy development for codes and policy program
  • Manage and direct technical and policy staff


Qualifications
 

  • Degree or graduate?level work in engineering, architecture, energy policy, or a related field; and demonstrated minimum five years of experience in a building or energy?related field 
  • Experience working with state or national energy codes, electric and gas utilities, distributed energy firms, or energy efficiency policy
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills 
  • Ability to provide program leadership, work independently and collaboratively, and under tight deadlines 
  • Competency and proficiency with MS Office for report and presentation development NBI is focused on improving the energy performance of commercial buildings; successful candidates will have an affinity for and an interest in buildings  

Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is offered for this position. This position is subject to a three-month probationary period.
