The Green Building Certification Institute is currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated professional to serve as an operations director.

Position Overview:

The Director of Operations for GBCI will direct day-to-day, ongoing departmental operations to ensure effective delivery of top quality services and resources in support of GBCI's mission. The Director of Operations for GBCI will work directly with the Vice President of Credentialing to establish departmental objectives and work plans in close coordination with the department staff.

Responsibilities:

  • OpsCom Group Activities (under direction of PMO):
    • Determine short-term and long-term project business requirements
    • Work closely with rest of organizational department in order to implement business process changes while facilitating your organization department needs
    • Represent your department's needs; balance needs with wants within context of organizational capacity and resources to prioritize projects
    • Communicate departmental needs and wants to full OpsCom
    • Resolve inter-departmental dependencies and conflicts or elevate to the EMT
    • Define new required skills, competencies, & knowledge transfer
    • Attend training identified as vital to job performance
    • Be a champion for USGBC 4DO process
  • Project Task Activities (Under direction/in collaboration with PMO):
    • Identify, define and scope specifications for future enhancements to GBCI's business processes
    • Define, submit project requests
    • Ensure vision and requirements match
    • Document requirements
    • Ensure project is feasible within timeframe, budget and technology platform
    • Create and manage timeline and input to overall work plan
    • Define and align project activities to KPIs (key performance indicators)
    • Identify and create project risk/issues and cost analysis
    • Identify and report project milestones
    • Sign off on documents
  • Department Activities:
    • Disseminate information to your department
    • Engage staff in your organization department if they are needed as a resource
    • Transfer project knowledge
    • Execute or delegate your department's testing for completed projects
    • Provide department process and functional knowledge
    • Own department process to field questions related to process or application changes
  • Optional Activities: TBD by each department. For example:
    • Budget process and tracking for organizational department
    • Process analysis and documentation for new or as is processes for organizational department
    • New hire orientation for organizational department; with employee's manager

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience
  • SMT Level Employee; need to ability to act on behalf of their department with approval of the department head.
  • High-level understanding of GBCI/USGBC business requirements preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Visio (if lacking, will train)
