~ The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the membership-based business association for the organic industry in North America. ~
Our mission is to promote and protect organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy. We envision organic products becoming a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people's lives and the environment.
We represent businesses across the organic supply chain and address all things organic, including food, fiber/textiles, personal care products and new sectors as they develop. Over 60 percent of OTA trade members are small businesses. OTA has an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) research and education organization, The Organic Center (TOC), which operates under its administrative auspices.
Position Overview
Responsible for overall membership growth strategy including outreach planning and implementation as well as reporting and analysis. Serves as sales lead for priority member prospects. Generates and manages member acquisition campaigns to meet new member goals for the association.
This role also ensures the team uses CRM system (Salesforce) with all aspects of the membership flow from identification to retention to all engagement projects Functions as a creative member of OTA's team; shares information effectively to assist others in doing OTA's work.
Responsibilities
Functions:
- Develop campaigns, goals and work plans for new membership acquisition and member retention as well as engagement programs. Monitors progress and provide reports include monthly at risk and prospect report to leadership.
- Supervises Associate Director of Engagement and Affinity Programs and Membership Services Coordinator. Works closely with Director of Development and Salesforce and Development Coordinator.
- Lead the development of outreach materials (print and digital) for prospective members in collaboration with Communications team.
- Manage all recruitment efforts and relationships with volunteers, including board members, assisting with recruitment efforts, including Moves Management.
- Coordinate member prospect identification and tracking systems. Manage outreach to prospective members via direct mail campaigns, emails, telephone sales calls, and in-person meetings.
- Approves all payment plans. Work closely with Membership Services Coordinator to ensure timely collections.
- Work with OTA staff to identify members "at risk" based on knowledge of the membership and industry and develop solutions to increase satisfaction and retain members.
- Manage 1st year membership program to increase retention rates.
- Set goals and activities for member service and membership retention: coordinates and conducts calls to expiring members.
- Identify and attend trade shows, conferences and other events to represent OTA to members and prospective members. Travel up to 25% of time.
- Increasing the size and retention of OTA's membership by developing and implementing strategic growth plans, managing the annual renewal process, and creating and commissioning new options for membership credentials
- Increasing membership revenue for OTA by managing and growing membership products and services programs, and analyzing and recommending revisions to the existing dues structure.
- Forecasting membership revenue for the association.
- Overseeing utilization of the CRM database for membership analysis, development of membership statistical reports, and membership campaigns.
- Initiating and instituting business processes and technical improvements that lead to greater efficiency and seamless member experiences.
- Evaluating effectiveness of strategies, such as fee and membership category structures, services, materials, benefits, and policies relating to retention of current members and acquisition of new members, and recommends changes as appropriate to attain goals.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Experience:
- Five or more years of trade association membership management experience
- Three or more years of supervisory experience
- Prior experience and proven results with membership acquisition and retention programs
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing, or a related field
Skills/Knowledge:
- Mastery of Salesforce, or similar CRM system- in a membership setting preferred
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Strong project/ campaign management skills
- Problem solver, idea-generator
- Ability to work well under pressure with critical deadlines
- Proficiency in developing and implementing strategic membership and revenue growth plans for associations
- Team player with proven ability to manage, mentor, and motivate staff
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Detail oriented, self-starter, with strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of organic industry, agriculture, food trade a plus
