Hawthorne Valley Association, founded in 1972, is a diverse not-for-profit with a unique mix of cultural and economic endeavors. Located on a 400-acre working farm in central Columbia County (40 minutes south of Albany, 2 ½ hours north of New York City), the Association today includes:
Hawthorne Valley Farm: A Biodynamic farm with on-farm education for children and adults, a 65-cow dairy herd, an on-site Creamery, 14 acres of mixed vegetables with 300-member CSA, a full-line natural foods store, an organic bakery, and sauerkraut cellar.
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School: A nursery through grade 12 Waldorf day school with boarding and exchange programs.
Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program: A research and outreach branch with a general focus on agriculture and land use change in Columbia County.
Hawthorne Valley Center for Social Research: A research and outreach branch investigating the dynamics, jurisdiction, and interdependence of the 3 primary spheres of social life: culture, rights, and the economy.
Hawthorne Valley Alkion Center: Offering Foundation Studies in Anthroposophy, Waldorf Teacher Training for Early Childhood through Grade 8, and visual arts courses.
Hawthorne Valley Adonis Press: A publisher and distributor of books on phenomenological science, poetry, and essays.
Position Overview:
The Marketing and Communications Department is a central Hawthorne Valley Association service, supporting the marketing and communication needs of each of the branches and of the organization as a whole. Department responsibilities include printed materials and product packaging; marketing events planning, promotion, and execution; online presence including website development and maintenance, social media, and ecommerce; and, overarching marketing strategy development and budgeting. The Department also works with the branches to be current regarding trends and best practices in marketing for each area of the HVA.
Responsibilities:
The general responsibilities of this position: The Director of Marketing and Communications coordinates with each branch and supports all aspects of marketing and communications work at Hawthorne Valley Association from strategy development through implementation and review. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Desired Qualifications: Applicants should have a strong interest in marketing and communication; familiarity with Microsoft Office; ability to be self-guided and to work independently; solid writing and communication skills. Related academic and work experience is a plus. Knowledge of Adobe design products, Drupal 7, Mail Chimp, Microsoft Exchange would be helpful but is not required.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is full time, overtime exempt, and carries full health, dental, and pension benefits.
