~ Founded in 2001, the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) is a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit organization that unites finance, policy and technology to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy. We are the focal point for collaborative advocacy across the renewable energy sector. ~

Position Overview

ACORE seeks a Director to help drive activities and impact on its Macro Grid Initiative, a national campaign to accelerate public and policymaker support for an expanded National and Eastern Interconnection Macro Grid to reduce carbon emissions and enable high renewable energy penetration.

The ideal candidate will have subject matter expertise on electric transmission, power market and renewable energy issues; ten years of advocacy, communications and/or lobbying experience; and a demonstrated track record overseeing and successfully executing multi-faceted projects on tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

Key Job Duties:

  • Build support among federal policymakers and various energy policy stakeholders for a national transmission grid
  • Enlist governors and other state leaders in advancing the next round of regional and interregional transmission planning in partnership with regional organizations
  • Help promote a new FERC transmission planning rule
  • Drive and execute day-to-day activities of the Macro Grid Initiative
  • Play a key role in ACORE advocacy and grid policy initiatives, including coordination of meetings and preparation of presentations and analyses for use with Federal and state officials
  • Collaborate with ACORE programs, communications, membership, sponsorship and other internal teams in support of ACORE’s mission and organizational objectives
  • Produce high-quality written materials, including white papers, presentations, public comments, briefings, and blogs in coordination with both internal and external experts
  • Prepare content for the ACORE website, annual report, and other external publications in coordination with the communications team
  • Stay abreast of renewable energy and transmission trends and act as a point of contact for related internal and external inquiries
  • Represent ACORE at meetings

Qualifications

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ten years advocacy, communications and/or lobbying experience
  • Subject matter expertise on transmission planning (e.g. FERC Order No. 1000) and renewable energy integration
  • Demonstrated track record successfully executing multi-faceted projects on tight timelines
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, partners, and member companies
  • Collaborative and collegial work style that compliments a small office
  • Bachelor’s degree required, postgraduate degree a plus
