~ Renewable Biofuels (RBF) owns and operates the BQ9000 certified, multi-feedstock RBF Port Neches Facility - the largest biodiesel production facility in North America - which became operational in December 2008. ~

RBF is a well-capitalized biofuel processor with an experienced staff of professionals. RBF has been serving wholesale biodiesel customers for over six years and has, in that time, developed a reputation for consistently and efficiently delivering quality products in signficant volumes.  

Position Overview

The Director of Engineering and Special Projectsis person will lead the engineering staff in managing daily plant operations, quality management, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Delegate work assignments, evaluate performance, impose discipline, and recommend hiring, promotion, compensation, and discharge decisions for subordinate engineering staff.
  • Manage a team responsible for the design and implementation of process improvements and equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure operational excellence via efficient plant design by applying engineering experience in feedstock refining in the biodiesel industry.
  • Lead continuous improvement in process, cost, quality, and production, and direct all related engineering efforts, including Chemcad and ASPEN process-simulation and modeling applications for biofuels and distributed control systems.
  • Apply cost engineering and benefits analysis to develop engineering budgets, track expenditures, and monitor projects against budget and performance targets.
  • Guide design team to develop improvement projects, seek capital approvals, and manage project team to ensure execution of capital projects, including scope development, design, and start-up and commissioning, to meet deliverables, schedule, and budget.
  • Head special projects that require subject-matter engineering expertise, stringent constraints, or fast-track implementation.
  • Engage and direct third-party consultants and contractors with technical expertise to support engineering team as needed.
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess project feasibility.
  • Lead systems and procedure development for document control, engineering standards and specifications, and project execution.
  • Lead process safety management process. 

Qualifications 

Position Requirements, Education & Experience: 

  • Master's in Chemical Engineering.
  • 6 years of biodiesel operations, engineering, and research experience.
  • Process Safety Management Certification.
  • Process Hazard Analysis Certification.
  • Demonstrated distributed control systems experience.
  • Demonstrated engineering experience in feedstock refining in the biodiesel industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting execution of capital projects, including scope development, design, and start-up and commissioning.
  • Demonstrated experience using Chemcad and ASPEN process simulation and modeling applications for biofuels.
  • Demonstrated experience with cost engineering and benefits analysis.
  • Experience with mentoring and providing leadership to junior operations and engineering personnel.
