Founded in 1948, Mechanical Contractors, Inc. specializes in commercial HVAC design, installation, and service. MCI is continuing to evolve into advance energy engineering solutions for large building owners. The company has developed significant expertise in energy services, including LEED certification, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and is looking to expand. MCI has offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, NC.
Position Overview:
MCI seeks a Director of Energy Efficiency Services to expand MCI's offerings and market share in energy efficiency services in new and existing buildings. The position is entrepreneurial in nature and will require the right mix of technical understanding, customer development skills, and economic understanding to develop energy saving solutions for each customer's facilities. There is significant growth potential in this position. The position reports to the VP of Integrated Building Services (IBS) and is located in Charlotte, NC.
Responsibilities:
To develop opportunities to implement energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements in commercial buildings, utilizing the engineering, service, controls, maintenance and installation resources at MCI. Maximize profitability and maintain customer satisfaction by managing such projects.
Key Job Tasks:
Develop Market Share:
- Seek out and develop commercial and institutional customers with energy efficiency needs, as well as build and maintain these connections.
- Promote solutions and services that provide energy improvements.
- Work cooperatively with MCI project resources in engineering, service, controls, maintenance, and installation.
Develop Business Case for Improvements:
- Understand how to utilize policy resources such as incentives, grants, etc. in projects.
- Work with MCI estimating / finance to develop pricing and rate of return analysis.
- Identify best technical solutions to maximize customer return and energy efficiency using software tools for building benchmarking and energy modeling.
- Identify new technologies and promote/educate applications as economically feasible.
- Provide internal energy expertise for special requirements in as needed. ( i.e. LEED; EBOM and NC Solar, Ice storage)
- Integrate solar thermal and photovoltaic into projects where possible.
Qualifications:
Required Academic Credentials, Certifications, Licenses:
- BS in building science related field.
- Masters degree or other higher certification such as CEM.
- Professional Engineering License preferred but not required.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Working knowledge of energy modeling software systems and concepts, project financing, and commercial lease structures.
- Expert knowledge of utility rates function and utility marketing concepts.
- Familiarity with HVAC and lighting systems and applications with emphasis in energy improvement methods.
- Problem-solving and team-leading skills.
- Knowledge of building Energy Management Systems and/or temperature control systems.
- Knowledge of life cycle economic forecasting.

- Communicates well with non-technical asset managers.

Compensation: Salary - $75k-$100k per year based on qualifications plus performance bonus. Benefits including Medical, Life Insurance, Disability, 401K.
