Description

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association (CVNPA), in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park, provides innovative education and fosters community awareness, support and enjoyment of the park.

The Environmental Education Center (EEC) is an environmental learning facility of Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association. The Environmental Education Center provides innovative programs for students and educators in an urban National Park setting, including residential and day programs for students, summer camps, workshops, and provides conference facilities for groups interested in environmental education.

Located in scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the center is operated in partnership with the National Park Service.

Duties:
The Director of Educational Programs has direct responsibility for the direction, implementation and content of educational programs, including curriculum development, intern training and professional development opportunities for educators by personally performing the following duties:

  • Oversee curriculum implementation, design and evaluation for CVNPA's educational programs which includes the resident program, day program, and summer camp.
  • In the absence of the Chief Educational Officer, oversees all operations at the EEC.
  • Coordinate the professional development of the center's interns by assessing the developmental needs of interns, and identifying and/or creating educational experiences that address those needs.
  • This will involve collaborating with local universities and guest speakers.
  • Provide feedback and evaluation of interns teaching skills.
  • Supervise program coordinators, program assistants, interns, and head custodian.
  • Oversee the process to recruit, hire and supervise the center's teaching and administrative interns.
  • Provide innovative professional development opportunities for area educators consistent with the educational philosophy and mission of EEC.
  • This will involve partnering with a variety of other educational institutions to deliver these services.
  • Oversee the delivery and quality of all programs for schools.
  • Assist Chief Education Officer with the promotion of programs to parents, teachers, administrators, and community partner groups
  • Manage resident, summer and day program budgets in consultation with the Chief Education Officer.
  • Assist the financial development staff with researching and developing funding sources for new educational programs and program initiatives.
  • Represent CVNPA with other educational groups and organizations.
  • Manage, implement and analyze project grants related to educational projects.
  • Serve on Education Committee as staff advisor.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required (M.A. or M.S.) in education, environmental education or related field.
  • 5-10 years experience in education, in the classroom or in a residential EE program;
  • proven success in curriculum and program development,
  • experience with inquiry and problem based learning methodologies,
  • familiarity with environmental education, and knowledge of environmental science, natural history or field biology.
  • Ohio and FBI fingerprint check required.
  • valid Ohio driver's license required.
  • reliable transportation is required. 
  • $40,000 to 42,000 per year commensurate with experience; full benefits
