Description

The Yellowstone Association is a non-profit educational organization located in
Yellowstone National Park which promotes the preservation of Yellowstone
through education of park visitors.

The Yellowstone Associations three major program areas include: educational
sales, educational programs, and memberships. These programs are highly
interdependent with the success of each contributing to the success of all.
Proceeds from educational sales and memberships are used to provide funding
for a wide range of educational programs for Yellowstone visitors including films
for visitor centers, wayside exhibits, printing the park newspaper, and training for
ranger-naturalists. Total sales of educational materials are budgeted for $2.1
million in fiscal 2003; the organization has around 14,000 members at the current
time. The total amount of aid provided to Yellowstone by the Yellowstone
Association in fiscal 2002 was valued at approximately $640,000.

Educational programs: The Yellowstone Association provides nearly 100,000
educational contact hours to over 3,000 park visitors each year though its
Yellowstone Association Institute program. Courses are offered throughout the
year, vary from six hours to five days in length and cover all topics relevant to
Yellowstone and the surrounding ecosystem. Participants stay at the
Associations residential facility in the parks Lamar Valley or in park hotels
through a partnership the Association has developed with the parks hotel
concessionaire, Xanterra Parks and Resorts. Long-range plans call for a new
educational facility to serve the southern portions of the park. Emphasis is on high
quality, in-depth, instruction at an affordable price. Educational programs offered
by the Yellowstone Association are expected to generate revenue adequate to
cover all related costs.

Additional information about the Associations programs and current projects is

Gardiner, Montana. As park roads are closed during the winter to automobile
traffic, Association employees generally live in Gardiner or north of Gardiner
within commuting distance. Gardiner has a population of approximately 600. The

Because of the small amount of private land available in the area for development
of housing and the areas attraction for those wishing to live near Yellowstone
National Park, housing may be difficult to obtain in the immediate Gardiner,
Montana, area. As a result, the successful candidate may need to commute. A
gas allowance will be paid for the first four years of employment if necessary for
