Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Position: Full time, salaried, exempt

Earthwatch Institute is an international, non-profit organization that engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. Earthwatch is dedicated to working with corporations to achieve our mission.

Position Summary:

Identifies strategies to develop and cultivate long-term, comprehensive relationships with Fortune 1000 company headquarters and businesses with 250-plus employees in order to achieve the Earthwatch mission and income outcomes and company objectives. Maintains a strong portfolio and provide ongoing staff development to corporate fulfillment staff. Determine and implement multi-function fulfillment and multi-level relationship cultivation. Responsible for meeting the goals and objectives established in quarterly goal setting and benchmarking with Chief Development Officer.

Responsibilities:

* Collaborates with executive leadership to ensure a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with priority corporations that maximize opportunities within the assigned geographic market.
* Carries a strong personal portfolio of accounts and identifies multi-regional and multi-national opportunities in the market, which accounts for 80% of the job.
* Provides ongoing training, mentoring, and performance feedback for effective corporate relations fulfillment, which accounts for 20% of the job.
* Assists affiliate offices (UK, Australia, and Japan) and various departments in prioritizing corporate relationships and manages product development including methods for tracking corporate donor feedback.
* Ensures effective strategies are utilized to increase and cross-sell Conservation Initiatives, Research Projects, Educational Programs, Volunteer Development and Income Development opportunities with corporations. Income opportunities would include outright Major Gifts, Payroll Deduction, Cause-Related Marketing, Sponsorships, Matching Gifts, and Special Events participation.
* Researches and analyzes workplace trends to identify best practices, develop needed resources and recommend goal setting and activity metrics.
* Ensures an effective approach is utilized to deliver and track Earthwatch activities and progress, programs, and dollars raised and marketing value.
* Working with appropriate departments/staff, ensures sales and relationship management and effective volunteer utilization.
* Oversees strategies relating to EarthShare, United Way, CFC and other employee giving federations.
* Ensures that appropriate corporate and employee recognition vehicles are utilized.
* Adheres to Earthwatch reporting guidelines for all data and information records.
* Participate in Earthwatch Annual Conference and other Earthwatch events/activities as appropriate
* Other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education. Advanced degree is a plus.
* A five to seven year successful track record in sales or fundraising, including planning, analyzing, and implementing of corporate sales and marketing experience preferred, selling of an intangible product desirable.
* Successful experience in developing and managing key relationships and proven track record of closing deals. Strong belief in cultivation and stewardship required.
* Ability to recruit, develop and lead volunteers and junior staff.
* Excellent oral and written communications skills.
* Comfort with oral, written and public presentations.
* Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, internet based applications, and computer equipment.
* Frequent regional and overnight travel required, as well as some evening and weekend meetings and/or program participation.
* Past non-profit work experience preferred.

Relationships:

Will be Director of Corporate Development Team which includes Manager and Assistant; in addition to ongoing reporting relationship to Chief Development Officer, will participate in regularly scheduled communications update sessions with various members of development and marketing teams. Will also serve as a Senior Manager of the organization.
