The Organization
Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), a non-profit business association that seeks to create a more just and sustainable global economy by working with business and leading stakeholders to promote more responsible business practices, is seeking a Communications Director in its San Francisco headquarters. BSR's staff of 60 at its headquarters in San Francisco and offices in Paris, Guangzhou, China, and Hong Kong works to realize our vision by providing information and services to our 250 member companies; providing consulting and advisory services; researching emerging sustainability trends and solutions, and promoting collaboration between business, the public sector, and civil society. Position Overview
The Director will report to the Vice President of the CSR Strategy Team, and will be responsible for global media relations, brand management, the BSR website, regular BSR publications, and marketing collateral.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of BSR's media and communications strategy; oversee implementation of the strategy, and build and maintain relationships with media contacts globally.
- Manage and lead the daily operations of the Communications Team, currently three staff, which produces regular external communications and publications. This includes facilitating meetings, prioritizing projects, budget development and management.
- Oversee delivery of weekly/quarterly publications, both in electronic and hardcopy formats.
- Deliver and manage marketing collateral for BSR members, other businesses and potential partners.
- Oversight of the BSR website, including a redesign to be implemented over the next 12 months.
- Manage external vendor relationships including contract negotiation and service delivery.
- Other duties as required and assigned by the VP, CSR Strategy.
Qualifications
NOTE: Only candidates with these specific requirements will be considered:
- Graduate degree, such as an MBA, M.S., or M.A. preferred;
- 8-10 years experience in related senior management positions responsible for leading communications, media relations and/or brand management;
- CSR or sustainability content knowledge and experience with business and international focus;
- Fluency in another language preferred, especially French, Spanish or Chinese, and/or experience with non-US press;
- Minimum 5 years directly supervising others;
- Clear track record of delivering on time and on budget;
- Experience leading a small team to big results, managing team's performance and adherence to deadlines;
- Experience in web-based media (e.g., podcasting, blogs, etc.) a plus;
- Writes powerfully and persuasively using various styles and effectively addresses different needs and audiences;
- Knowledge management experience preferred;
- Projects a professional and polished image that inspires confidence and trust.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking and written/verbal communication skills for working with both internal and external clients;
- High ethical standards and commitment to BSR's core values of Leadership, Integrity and Respect.
- Comfort in entrepreneurial environment.
