The Synergos Institute, a global leader working to develop and implement effective, sustainable and locally rooted solutions to extreme poverty, seeks a new Director, Multistakeholder Partnerships.
Based in New York City, Synergos brings an extraordinary alignment of global philanthropic networks, program resources, credibility in the international development field and a well-established commitment to a lasting change in the fight against extreme poverty and human deprivation. Synergos concentrates its work in Africa, Asia and Latin America and has an annual budget of $10 million.
In November 2004, Synergos embarked on the Multistakeholder Partnership Program in partnership with Generon Consulting to reduce poverty and increase equity through systemic change. The program is designed to initiate, convene, resource and implement a significant number of global, regional and national consensus-building and problem-solving initiatives. These partnership activities are directed at addressing a broad spectrum of humanity's most critical challenges. The program also conducts R&D and capacity building in the area of whole-systems multi-stakeholder partnerships.
The Director, Multistakeholder Partnerships will report to the President and should ideally possess the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:
* Minimum 10-15 years experience in senior leadership capacity at multilateral organization, overseas development agency (ODA), foundation or civil society organization engaged in innovative and/or partnership-based approaches to international development and poverty alleviation. Candidates with relevant experience and skills from the corporate sector will be considered.
* Proven record of achievement in conceiving, brokering, financing and operating partnerships among government, business and/or civil society organizations
* Successful record in raising funds from foundations, corporations, international agencies, governments and individuals
* Experience living in a developing country context - fluency in English plus one other language
* Capacity to learn from experience, to adapt as needed, to co-generate new ideas, to listen, and to work with others to shape emerging futures
* Natural talent for bridging differences, finding common ground, and building relationships with people at all levels of society
* An advanced degree in social sciences, development economics, management, international development or related field
