The City and County of Denver is seeking a full-time Director for Greenprint Denver which is Denver's high profile sustainability program. The Director's job is a political appointment serving as a special advisor to Mayor John W. Hickenlooper. The Director reports directly to the Mayor's Senior Advisor for Policy and Initiatives.
Responsibilities:
* Provide policy support and staffing to the Mayor as needed on sustainability issues and positions. Provide liaison and point of contact for broad base of community stakeholders on policy issues.
* Support communications staff by drafting speaking points for Mayor as needed.
* Manage a staff of 4-6 part and full time staff, including program, administrative and events staff, and numerous consultants and volunteer supporters.
* Serve as primary spokesperson and point of contact for Program.
* Oversee communications support for Greenprint Denver, including response to media and other public inquiries, website maintenance and development, and monthly email newsletter.
* Oversee program marketing, fundraising and partnership development (i.e. with state and federal agencies, area cultural institutions, universities, businesses and non-profits).
* Administer grants and other funding resources as needed; provide needed reporting, donor recognition and follow up.
* Work with a dozen Department heads and 25+ key staff across city to successfully implement Greenprint Denver Action Agenda and produce annual public report card, measuring success toward established goals.
* Manage the Mayor's Greenprint Council, a high level group of city appointees, civic and business leaders who serve as program advisors.
* Lead outreach/ implementation planning for Mayor's Climate Action Agenda.
* Support efforts to "green" the Democratic National Convention in 2008.
* Support and coordinate work with "Tree by Tree - the Metro Million" initiative, based in the City's Parks Department.
* Convene annual national Green Cities Forum - a 2-3 day gathering of national experts hosted by Greenprint Denver.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree required, with Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) desired, in Environmental Studies and/or Public Policy.
* Minimum five years' experience working on sustainability issues and policy support for elected officials. Minimum two years' supervisory experience.
* Demonstrated leadership ability, management, flexibility and problem-solving capabilities. Specific experience implementing sustainability programs and realizing long-term impacts through local public policy, programs and partnerships.
The salary range is $70,000 - $85,000.
