We are currently seeking a Director, Construction to join our team!

Position Overview:

This position will be primarily responsible for overseeing multiple wind plant construction projects at a programmatic, supervisory level.  Key responsibilities include construction program improvements, safety, quality, positive land owner relationships, profitability, and schedule achievement by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and develops detailed project scope, schedule, and pro forma budgets for wind plant construction projects.
  • Critically reviews Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and Balance of Plant (BOP) cost estimates and Change Orders prepared by Contractors for wind plants going to construction, or under construction. Aggressively negotiates lower costs for the work to be performed.
  • Manages and directs project details from pre-construction through wind plant final completion.
  • Ensures cooperation, integration, and smooth transitions between Project Development, Engineering, Construction, and Operations Teams.
  • Supports WCG's on-site Construction Project Managers and field teams, conducts frequent site visits, and attends periodic Owner meetings.
  • Conducts site reviews during pre-construction phase to identify cost saving approaches.
  • Directs EPC contract administration, procurement of owner-supplied equipment, and supervision of construction staff, including staff oversight, mentoring, and risk management coaching.
  • Responsible for construction program schedules, including development, monitoring, and achievement of Commercial Operation Dates.
  • Responsible for construction program project-specific scope, quality, landowner relations, and that actual BOP costs are maintained within the Pro Forma budget.
  • Oversees both internal and external project controls (systems and processes).
  • Applies understanding of site development, technical services/engineering, transmission, turbine supply, power purchase, legal contracts, and operation and maintenance in order to work well with others and achieve successful project execution.
  • Assists SVP, Construction with bid solicitations, EPC contract development, and review of project-specific Turbine Supply Agreements.
  • Assists with the preparation of wind plant budgets, including pre-construction activities, EPC and BOP work estimates, Owner-provided equipment and facilities, and Owner's project management costs during construction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university; or 2 to 4 years technical school training is highly preferred
  • Former experience as an EPC contractor with multiple years of wind construction experience is highly preferred, including 10 to 20 years of experience in general construction industry
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of EPC wind plant construction.
  • Experience with all facets of construction project management, estimating, and scheduling
  • Experience with different construction project delivery methods, including Design/Build, Open-Book Review, Lump Sum, Unit Price, Guaranteed Maximum Price, Cost Caps, etc.
  • 3-5 years of wind-specific experience and competitive cost estimating expertise as BOP wind contractor is highly preferred
  • Ability to apply construction knowledge to mentor staff, reduce BOP construction costs, identify quality improvement opportunities, and achieve program goals
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Ability to travel extensively to construction sites to assist Construction Project Managers with trouble shooting and problem solving
