Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association (CVNPA) is a non-profit organization created to engage public support for Cuyahoga Valley National Park and provide services to enhance public use and enjoyment of the park. CVNPA and the National Park Service (NPS) work in partnership to manage the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center (CVEEC).
Programs at CVEEC are designed to educate and inspire youth and adults in a 500 acre natural setting. Offerings at the center include a four day three night educational experience for fourth through eighth grades; day programs for preschool, elementary, and secondary classes offered through the Park and at area schools; summer residential and day camps; and weekend retreats for educational and community groups.
Responsibilities (other duties as assigned):
PROGRAM: Provide day to day direction of the CVEEC as well as visionary leadership. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments in the environmental and K-12 education communities, develop new programming, oversee the school year residential program and summer camp offerings and the professional development of the teaching interns. Provide overall vision for the planning and development of the center.
COMMUNICATIONS: Work collaboratively with National Park Service personnel in all divisions and maintain effective communications with NPS leadership. Publicize the activities of the center, its programs and goals. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations, especially in the education field. Represent the programs and point of view of the center to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
ADMINISTRATION: Be responsible for the recruitment, employment and release of all regular and seasonal program staff situated at the center. Ensure that job descriptions are developed and that regular performance evaluations are held for all program staff at the center. Maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality employees. Prepare and monitor the annual budget. Work collaboratively with CVNPA development staff to raise funds to support the work of the center.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred in environmental education, nonprofit administration, natural sciences or general education. 5 to 10 years experience in environmental education. Must have experience in staff recruitment, supervision and retention. Candidate must have proven success in working cooperatively with other individuals and organizations.
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational and academic materials. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language and be computer literate.
Ohio and FBI fingerprint check and driver's license check required. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Compensation: Full time, exempt position. Wage commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
