Position Overview:

This job posting is a general call for resumes to identify candidates to join DAI's dynamic Environment and Energy Group and help build our new energy/climate change portfolio. We seek a highly motivated full-time Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Specialist to join our team of Bethesda Maryland-based water, natural resources, rural development and climate change specialists.

Responsibilities: 

The Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Climate Change Specialist will report to the DAI's Energy and Climate Change Technical Area Manager and will have the following responsibilities and duties.

  • Conduct research and analysis and produce reports and briefings on clean energy/energy efficiency and climate change economics, policies and regulations;
  • Support ongoing projects through technical oversight, and provide on-site technical inputs for ongoing long-term overseas projects;
  • Lead and/or support new business development market research, data collection, and analysis on key countries and donor-funded projects; and
  • Expand the portfolio by leading and supporting proposal development, including identifying potential firms that DAI should partner with and key staff for recruitment.

Qualifications: 

DAI is looking for candidates who are committed to pursuing a career in international development and already possess professional skills in clean energy, energy efficiency and /or climate change. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: Policy, regulation and investment incentives to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency; Renewable and energy efficiency technology evaluation, economic analysis, and financing; Small-scale/rural/off-grid or distributed power technologies and enterprise development; and/or low carbon energy development to support economic growth in developing countries.

Ideally, candidates will have previous experience working on projects funded by USAID or other donors, have worked in one or more developing countries, and be willing to travel approximately 30 percent of their time.

Basic Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • MBA or Masters Degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 8 years relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and motivation skills;
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to achieve specific objectives;
  • Strong English written and oral presentation skills;
  • Ability to communicate in at least one foreign language; and
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in a complex, challenging and rapidly changing environment.
