Earthjustice is the legal backbone for the environment.  Founded in 1971, we annually represent nearly 400 non-profit organizations for free in over 250 cases that promote a clean energy future, preserve our natural heritage, and safeguard our health.   

Headquartered in Oakland, California, Earthjustice has 9 regional offices, an international program, a legislative team and a communications team. Position Overview:

The Major Gifts Officer manages fundraising activity of approximately 200 major donors and prospects in our Pacific Northwest region who are capable of contributing major gifts of at least $5k annually, with a focus on individuals capable of gifts of $25k+.  

This position is responsible for the Pacific Northwest region which includes donors and prospects in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. Extensive field activity and travel is required.  Knowledge of this region is highly desirable. The successful candidate for this position can reside in and work out of our regional office located in Seattle, WA or in our headquarters located in Oakland, CA.

Qualifications: 

Ideal candidates will have:

  • 5 years demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in major gifts fundraising with a focus on prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation
  • Experience in personal solicitation of large gifts
  • Experience working with volunteers, volunteer leadership, and professional program staff
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation, and a keen interest in working as part of an entrepreneurial team
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; excellent research skills; superior written and oral communication skills; and relevant computer skills
  • Ability to work both entrepreneurially and collaboratively, and to function both as a leader and a partner within a team framework
  • Bachelor's degree required, higher degree a plus
  • Interest in and working knowledge of environmental and conservation issues highly desirable.
