Washington Trails Association (WTA) is seeking a self-motivated and experienced development professional to join WTA's development team. WTA's growing base of 9,000+ individual members and donors contribute over half of our $2 million annual budget to protect and maintain Washington's hiking trails.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic Development Manager who can help improve member engagement and increase giving from our individual members and major donors. The position will also play a key role in sustaining and growing corporate support. This position will have direct responsibility for raising approximately $450,000 of WTA's annual budget.

Responsibilities:

Individual Giving (80%):

  • Develop, implement, and assess annual giving strategies including special appeals, monthly giving, and workplace giving.
  • Develop, implement, and assess strategies to upgrade member giving in collaboration with the Membership Manager.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective Fireside Circle members ($500+ donors) in collaboration with the Development Director and Executive Director.
  • Provide additional support for the Fireside Circle program as directed by the Development Director. This may include coordination of events (including hikes and an annual celebration), writing and production of donor appeals and other communications materials, and coordination of donor stewardship activities.
  • Coordinate gift entry and acknowledgment of individual gifts.

Corporate Giving (10%):

  • Manage and promote WTA's corporate partner program with a focus on corporate members and sponsors.
  • Procure, process, and acknowledge gifts in kind for WTA events and programs.
  • Manage and promote corporate matching opportunities.
  • Coordinate gift entry and acknowledgment of corporate gifts.

Other (10%):

  • Ensure that all fundraising activity is recorded and tracked in Salesforce database and participate in the development and documentation of related procedures.
  • Actively participate in annual department planning as well as department and organization meetings and special events as required.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of development experience (including membership, annual giving, major gifts, or corporate sponsorships) or equivalent, preferably for a conservation-related mission.
  • Articulate verbal and written communicator.
  • Ability to develop a positive working relationship with a variety of people and collaborate closely with development and communications staff.
  • Ability to organize and manage a variety of responsibilities, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills including Salesforce (or another fundraising database) and MS Office (including spreadsheets and mail merge).
  • Experience with online fundraising and communications, including web, email, and social media.
  • Superb attention to detail.
  • High ethical standards and ability to manage confidential donor information.
  • Passion for hiking and a strong commitment to WTA's mission.
  • BA or equivalent.
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
