Description

Economic Opportunity Studies (EOS) is a small nonprofit group providing policy analysis, research, and project support to local Community Action Agencies and community-based organizations that serve low-income communities.

The EOS Weatherization Partnership Project offers state and local Weatherization Assistance Program providers with assistance in expanding their resource base. (Examples of our work can be located at Weatherization Plus.)

Position Overview: 

The Project seeks a Full-time, Paid Summer Intern. The intern's assignments will include working on several of the following plus other energy policy issues as they arise:

  • Analyzing reports and evaluations of residential energy services initiatives
  • Reviewing and tracking utility and other residential efficiency programs
  • Preparing reports based on the research
  • Contributing to project reports, newsletters, and web products
  • Assisting on other general tasks the project team may have

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate will have the following (Less-than-ideal candidates are welcome to apply):

Education / Graduate work in one or more of the following:

  • Environmental policy or law
  • Political economy
  • Sustainability and environmental economics/management

Experience in any of the following is a major asset:

  • Community-based organizations
  • Affordable housing programs
  • Research organizations focused on environmental economics, technology, or housing

Skills as demonstrated in academic work or on the job:

  • Experience using government programs and other records to find program information
  • Working knowledge of energy efficiency programs, initiatives and terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to talk to/interview a variety of individuals and professionals
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a small, busy team
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated high productivity and attention to detail

Compensation: Pay is $17/hour to $20/hour depending on experience. No benefits are offered.

  • The office is located two blocks from Union Station.
  • Internship runs from as soon as possible through August 2011. We will adjust weekly schedules to accommodate an academic calendar.
  • Internship requires a commitment of no less than 35 hours per week over the period.
  • Summer internship extension may be possible.
