Rugmark USA is a nonprofit organization working to end illegal child labor in the handmade rug industry. A six-country consortium, Rugmark certifies handmade rugs from India, Nepal, and Pakistan as child labor-free; rescues and rehabilitates working children; and offers consumers the choice to purchase carpets bearing the Rugmark label.
Overview of the Position:
The Development Director is responsible for assisting Rugmark USA to secure new funding for a three-year growth phase. Strategies include outreach to private individuals, foundations, corporate donors, and government agencies. The 2005 budget is projected at $753,000.
Specific Duties Include:
Refine and implement revenue growth and development plan.
Increase giving from existing donors.
Identify and cultivate new potential foundation and major donor supporters.
Work with the Executive Director and Board to enable their full participation in fundraising strategy, including organizing donor meetings and preparing briefing materials.
Report quarterly on fundraising activities and income.
Write well-crafted proposals and letters.
Fulfill donor-reporting requirements.
Participate in marketing and communication activities.
Based in Washington, DC.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years fundraising experience.
Proven track record of fundraising success, including with short turn around time.
Experience with foundation and major donor development.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple project deadlines.
Strong organizational and project management skills.

Schedule: Full-time. Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 depending on experience + health and retirement benefits. Start Date: April 1, 2005
