Sempervirens Fund is California's oldest land conservancy, preserving redwood forests and wildlands in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Position Summary 

The Development Associate is a fulltime position reporting to the Development Director. The position is responsible for foundation and corporate grant writing and administrative support for general fundraising activities. This position requires an energetic team player with excellent communication, time-management, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

Responsibilities 

Foundations and Corporations Grant Management:  Develop and manage foundation and corporate grant writing program including timely submission of grants and reports Manage grant calendar Identify and research new grant opportunities 

Development Fundraising and Events: Manage annual Founders Club event and assist with donor cultivation activities, appreciation events, site visits and donor correspondence

Research: Draft, and assemble information with or on behalf of Development Director to create customized fundraising proposals and collateral materials

Prospect Identification: Research major donor prospects Gift management and acknowledgement: ensure that gifts are processed accurately, acknowledgments are prompt, records are scrupulously maintained, and that fundraising collateral is up-to-date and stocked.

Planned Giving: Assist Development Director with activities and recordkeeping Improve quality of current and old data

Assist Development Director in supporting the Development Committee, including taking and distributing minutes to members 

General Office Responsibilities: Propose, initiate, coordinate and implement special projects to improve systems and information sharing.  On behalf of Development Director, coordinate and schedule meetings. Assist other staff, including phone coverage, as needed. Write and regularly update all development acknowledgment letters. Perform other office duties as required to support the Development Director 

Minimum Qualifications 

- Bachelor's degree required. Three years combined experience in development, marketing and customer service, or an alternate combination of relevant experience.

- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Self-motivated and able to perform well in a dynamic environment

- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and judgment
- Experience using Word, Excel, and internet research tools
- Experience in using a donor database (Raiser's Edge) is a plus
- Valid California Driver's License
- Background and/or interest in environmental and land conservation issues
