Overall Function: 

Environmental Defense seeks a Development Assistant in our New York office. The Development Assistant will provide administrative support to the two Associate Vice Presidents of the Development Department. The Development Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks listed below in addition to various special projects, as assigned. 

Key Responsibilities: 

* Create organizational systems and maintain files, databases, etc.
* Develop and distribute correspondence and other documents. 
* Edit and draft correspondence for AVPs. 
* Coordinate meetings and appointments. 
* Coordinate conference calls and travel arrangements.
* Interact with the organization's top donors. 
* Process expense reports and department related invoices. 
* Provide reports from the donor database.
* Create Excel spreadsheets to assist with data analysis. 
* Route and respond to telephone calls.
* Coordinate complex donor mailings 

Qualifications: 

* Bachelors degree required; some administrative experience preferred.
* Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience with donor databases a plus.
* A bright, self-starter capable of working independently.
* Ability to prioritize work from several professionals.
* Excellent organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* Comfort working with budget spreadsheets.
* Meticulous attention to detail.
* Ability to interact with staff, donors, board members, trustees and other influentials with professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
* Ability to work with confidential, sensitive information. Interest in fundraising or environmental issues strongly preferred.
