Description
Silent Spring Institute is a partnership of scientists, physicians, public health advocates, and community activists united around the common goal of identifying and changing the links between the environment and women's health, especially breast cancer.
This collaboration began when activists from the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition recognized the need for a new type of research organization to find preventable causes of breast cancer.
Position Overview:
Put your data base skills to work for environmental research and breast cancer prevention.
If environmental pollutants cause even a small percentage of breast cancers, discovery of environmental causes that can be changed will save thousands from this disease. This is our mission - and we are looking for someone with first-rate data base expertise and strong communications skills to join our development team. Our ideal applicant will bring technical know-how, energy, and enthusiasm to the challenge of expanding private donor funding for our growing non-profit.
Responsibilities:
This position requires versatility and flexibility in support of the Director of Development and Community Affairs. Primary responsibility will be to use and manage our database as an integrated resource for transactions, reports, correspondence, mailings, and list management. Assisting the director with volunteer committee meetings, event planning, and a variety of other initiatives is also a key responsibility.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree with good academic record
- Minimum of one year professional experience
- Strong computer skills including database (Filemaker Pro preferred), Word, Excel, mass email software
- First-rate organizational skills and attention to detail
- Sense of humor and willingness to take on both creative and routine tasks.
- Attend some evening/weekend public and community events
