The Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC), the Midwest's leading environmental legal advocacy and eco-business organization, seeks to hire a Development Assistant.
This entry-level position allows an individual to work as a member of an experienced development team. It offers a person the opportunity to grow in interest and understanding of environmental issues and of fundraising for public interest advocacy.
Based in Chicago, ELPC works in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
One of ELPC's premises is that environmental progress and economic development can be achieved together. ELPC's major programs put this policy belief into practice by:
Promoting sustainable energy strategies that reduce environmental degradation by encouraging the development of energy efficiency and renewable resources alternatives to nuclear and coal plants.
Advocating innovative transportation approaches, such as the development of a Midwest high-speed railroad network that will lead to cleaner air and more jobs.
Promoting eco-business partnership initiatives that develop new markets for the use of products manufactured from recovered or sustainably produced materials and support environmentally preferable best practices.
Developing sound environmental management practices that conserve natural resources and improve the quality of life in our communities.
ELPC's multidisciplinary professional staff includes attorneys, MBA's and public policy specialists. ELPC was established in 1993 and has an annual budget of $3.1 million.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the director of development and development associate in executing the development plan through: foundation and major donor prospect research, donor contact management, database management, maintenance of all development records, assisting with foundation grant writing and reporting, and assisting with major donor events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong written and verbal communications skills, excellent computer skills including a strong background with MS Access, organized, and an interest in fund raising in support of environmental issues.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience and skills.
