The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is a private non-profit organization that works to foster and promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically-disadvantaged individuals and communities.
Position Overview:
NCAT is seeking an accomplished and experienced fundraiser to serve as our Development Director. This is a regular, full-time position located in NCAT's Butte, Montana office.
NCAT has excellent project development staff and processes in place to fund specific project work but desires to increase our efforts in raising additional and "unencumbered" funds. We are ready to take the next step in developing new sources of income including increasing membership, donor, and other fundraising activities. This is an excellent opportunity for the ideal candidate with a combination of education and experience in nonprofit fundraising to design their own position with an opportunity to grow with NCAT.
Responsibilities:
- Work directly with NCAT's Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan.
- Write an "organizational case statement" that is compelling and expresses NCAT's mission.
- Research foundation funding opportunities, write foundation and grant proposals, and provide reports for foundations and other funders.
- Work with NCAT staff to create appropriate fundraising and development materials.
- Write and coordinate a quarterly newsletter for membership.
- Update NCAT's website to make it attractive and complementary to fundraising.
- Assist in project development activities identifying new foundation, individual and government prospects.
- Promote and sustain NCAT's mission.
- Some travel will be required.
Qualifications:
You must be a seasoned professional with a minimum of 7 years of demonstrated successful experience in all aspects of nonprofit fundraising including membership and major donor programs, foundation support and internet and direct mail solicitations. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with established relationships in the non-profit and foundation world. You must have an excellent understanding of nonprofit management and finance.
The successful applicant will have an understanding of and commitment to NCAT's mission. Good computer skills including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and experience with donor databases are required. BA/BS degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or related field is required; MS degree preferred.
Compensation: Salary range is $45,000 to $60,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include paid vacation and holidays, health, life and disability insurance, cafeteria and 401 (k) plans and a pleasant, professional office environment.
