Summer Employment Opportunities: Working with Youth in Detroit area parks
Are you interested in leading a group of high school students completing hands-on conservation projects in Detroit area parks? The Student Conservation Association is currently accepting applications for Crew Leader positions for our 2008 Detroit Conservation Leadership Program located in Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities:
Co-lead, supervise and mentor a team of 10 high school youth, ages 15-18 for seven weeks (Mon-Fri. 8hrs/day) completing an assortment of hands-on conservation and restoration projects with The Greening of Detroit and other community partners; also plan and lead weekly educational field trips and reflection sessions.
Qualifications:
21yrs or older; valid driver's license for 3+ years, MVR that meets SCA standards; current Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certifications or ability to obtain; outdoor skills; experience working with urban youth; ability to maintain safe, productive and enjoyable work environment; strong interest in working with and mentoring youth. Candidates must demonstrate a desire to rebuild and redefine Detroit in the image of our work and ourselves. Multi-lingual a plus.
Training: Applicants must be able to attend the training session (travel, food, and lodging costs fully covered). Training: June 14th-21st.
Additional professional development courses including Wilderness First Aid are offered prior to training.
Program Dates: June 30th-August 15th
Salary is $3,325-$3,500 DOE.
