Campaign Background:
The California Wild Heritage Campaign (CWHC) seeks to permanently protect California's remaining public wild lands and rivers through an outreach, education, and community activism campaign designed to raise awareness and build public support of Wilderness and Wild and Scenic Rivers in California.
The Campaign is a coalition of more than 400 local, regional, state, and national conservation organizations, businesses, faith groups, and civic leaders committed to this goal. A 7-member Governing Board and Campaign Director guide the work of the Campaign.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The California Wild Heritage Campaign seeks a talented and energetic leader to direct and lead our priority campaigns in California. The ideal candidate for this position has federal legislative experience and has managed a multi-faceted grassroots campaign. Working directly with staff and contractors of the Campaign, the Deputy Director will manage a fast-paced and highly flexible, legislative, policy, media, and field operation.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Responsibilities
* Direct, lead, and manage priority legislative campaigns.
* Working with grassroots activists, staff, and partners, develop and implement legislative and outreach strategies to secure wilderness protection in targeted areas of the state.
* Communicate with local decision makers, federal agencies, and members of Congress.
* Coordinate outreach activities of Campaign field organizers, contractors, and partner organizations and individuals.
* Ensure effective communication among campaign partners to maximize the effectiveness of a very large team.
* Design and implement grassroots organizing trainings for Campaign staff, contractors, and activists across the state.
* Work with the Campaign's Communications Director to design outreach and educational materials for the press, general public, community leaders and decision makers.
Qualifications
* 3-5 years experience managing a grassroots legislative campaign, including at least 1-3 years as a staff supervisor.
* Familiarity with the federal legislative process.
* Demonstrated ability to develop issue campaigns that involve legislation, research, coalition building, media, and field organizing strategies.
* Experience working in a coalition setting and the ability to coordinate the activities of many diverse partners.
* Strong interpersonal and management skills.
* A strong sense of initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills.
* Demonstrated ability to multi-task and achieve deadlines.
* Ability to work positively with all kinds of people.
* Dedication to the preservation of California's public lands.
