The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.
Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Membership Manager, the Database Associate will be responsible for overseeing the Development team's databases, particularly the Raiser's Edge database of donors. S/he will be our in-house Raiser's Edge expert, responsible for ensuring general database support for all fundraising/membership activities, strategies and goals. S/he will be responsible for developing policies and procedures related to recording data, managing the processing of gifts, generating mailing lists and preparing reports for management. S/he will also work with the finance department to ensure consistent revenue reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the various database systems within the Development department;
- Ensure accuracy of information, and update records and create/run queries as needed;
- Ensure that all donations are processed timely and accurately;
- Import data from direct mail and online fundraising efforts regularly;
- Prepare and analyze reports for fundraising team;
- Assist with fundraising efforts, including mailings and events to retain and grow the donor base;
- Maintain and update housefile exchange lists and review, approve/decline and fulfill any list exchange requests;
- Review and finalize protocol for Development databases;
- Develop strategies that allow databases to share information seamlessly;
- Serve as a liaison between the Development and finance teams to see that financial data is accurately recorded;
- Serve as a liaison between the Development and Salesforce departments and help the Development team transition to full use of Salesforce; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required;
- 3-5 years professional experience; minimum 2-5 years experience managing databases, preferably in the development department of charitable organization;
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Access, Excel, and Internet);
- Knowledge of database management or donor tracking software (Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Access, etc.), proficiency with Raiser's Edge database strongly preferred;
- Excellent written and communications skills;
- Extreme attention to detail and accuracy;
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to handle a variety of challenges at the same time;
- Self-starter with ability to problem-solve efficiently and effectively;
- Willingness to work independently and as part of a team; and
- Spanish language skill a plus.
