Pesticide Action Network has worked to replace pesticides with ecologically sound alternatives since 1982. PANNA is one of five regional facilitating organizations serving a global network of more than 600 civil society groups in over 90 countries who share these goals.

In North America, we link over 195 affiliated health, consumer, labor, environment, progressive agriculture and public interest groups in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. with thousands supporters worldwide to promote healthier, more effective pest management through research and analysis, policy development, public education, media outreach, demonstrations of alternatives and local, national and international advocacy campaigns. PANNA's San Francisco office has 20 staff. We maintain two primary Web sites and related specialized sites and online services.  

Position Overview:

The Data Management Intern will be responsible for the development and maintenance of PANNA's internal data management system. S/he will also provide support for the Californians for Pesticide Reform (CPR) database.

This position is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with professional staff in a dedicated and fast-paced environment. The Data Management Intern reports to the Intern Coordinator and works closely with other members of the Program and Administrative staff at PANNA and CPR on various aspects of nonprofit data management including data processing and entry, developing new systems and protocols, etc.

Responsibilities:

Update and maintain member and partner information in PANNA and CPR's Salesforce databases. This includes making address changes, linking records, combining duplicate records, identifying and correcting data entry errors.

Conduct research using online resources.
Assist in other department and office support activities, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Well-organized and detail-oriented. 
  • Ability to work both independently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills: MS Office, etc. Experience with Salesforce preferred. 
  • Experience using databases, Mac-based operating systems, and internet research preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience, interest in data management activities, and commitment to progressive causes preferred.

Ability to keep work organized in order for it to be interpreted by future interns or staff.

Compensation: There is no stipend associated with intern positions at PAN; however, we do reimburse any
local commuting costs. Benefits include:

Time requirement: All PAN interns commit to at least 10-15 hours per week, on a schedule that works for them.

Timeframe: For this position, preference will be given to applicants who are able to commit at least 2 to 4 months.

Location: Work will occur in the San Francisco office located 49 Powell St. The intern may also work from home in part if desired.
