~ Earthwatch Institute is an international non-profit organization that supports field research worldwide in ocean health, cultural heritage, climate change, and wildlife and ecosystems. Earthwatch supports field research that utilizes highly motivated non-specialist volunteers, also called citizen scientists, to collect data. ~
Position Overview
The IT Department is responsible for using technology to develop efficiencies within the non-profit business model, analyzing customer and project data for trends, and maintaining data security.
Responsibilities
Research Associate Interns will assist the IT Department with database needs to help support Earthwatch staff and internal business operations. Internships offer training in a variety of tasks and provide individuals an opportunity to be part of an exciting and dynamic team. Internship responsibilities may shift with seasonal needs.
Responsibilities may include:
- Advanced finds for database management
- Isolating errors and recoding booking and development data using SQL, Excel, or R
- Phone data reporting and integration
- Building refreshable dashboards in CRM, PowerPivot, and Tableau
- Data Analysis
- Internal data scraping and data entry
- Building a access risk management database
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Excellent attention to detail
- Understanding of querying databases, Excel, CRM database structure
- Adaptability, multi-tasking skills, and the ability to be a self-starter
- Understanding of BI cubes and SQL are a plus, but not required
Additional Information
Earthwatch interns can take part in the Intern Credit Program in which they receive credits to use towards a qualified Earthwatch expedition and are invited to participate in all Earthwatch activities.
Although three or more months are preferred, we require a minimum commitment of one month and 120 hours. We also encourage use of the internship for academic credit, thesis, or practicum work towards degree or certificate programs.
We are only able to accept-Massachusetts based applicants into the program, or those with a confirmed place to stay within commuting distance to Boston. Applicants must currently be eligible to work in the United States. All interns are required to have individual health insurance. Placement will be subject to qualifications and availability.
