Position Overview
At Columbia Sportswear Company (CSC), our Corporate Responsibility (CR) mission is to promote, inspire and influence responsible business practices from product creation to end consumer throughout CSC and its affiliate brands. This means:
  • Bringing products to market with ethical and environmental considerations
  • Craft and drive brand messaging on sustainability and social responsibility.
  • Ensuring we work with business partners that share our values of fair and ethical treatment of workers and environmental sustainability.
  • Being resource efficient in every aspect of our business from internal operations to supply chain.

As the CR Manager for MHW you will be responsible for developing and executing the brand’s social and environmental responsibility strategy and respective commitments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee MHW’s social and environmental responsibility strategy based on the brand direction, vision and mission.
  • Lead development of and socialization of sustainability strategy with MHW Brand President and senior management; collaborate and seek input, feedback, ideas and support.
  • Manage and execute strategic plan including initiative building, target setting, establishing baseline, measuring, tracking performance and making improvements over time.
  • Build and manage internal and external stakeholder teams to own initiatives and meet social and environmental targets.
  • Collaborate with CSC Corporate Responsibility team to ensure MHW strategic plan aligns with corporate direction, resources are aligned for efficiency and expertise is leveraged.
  • Identify internal and external challenges/opportunities and shape strategy to meet them. Regularly collaborate with and survey the broad sustainability community to keep abreast of new thoughts, technologies and working groups.
  • Actively research and provide direction to the company to identify improvements, new opportunities for environmental innovation, social responsibility and community development.
  • Work with Marketing and Sales departments to develop seasonal CR-based messaging for MHW.
  • Develop and manage multi stakeholder relationships (NGOs, government agencies, media, industry associations and other brands) on behalf of MHW social & environmental responsibility and work collaboratively to address environmental/social issues. Represent MHW in stakeholder conversations and spokesperson opportunities.
  • Build training and education programs for MHW employees using both CSC created tools and new brand-specific material.
  • Act as a liaison between MHW and corporate compliance department by working with the SMP Team.  Regularly communicate the current status of international manufacturing sites to ensure compliance with local and country labor laws, health & safety regulations and corporate standards related to human rights, wage standards, and other employment related practices.
  • Collaborate with SMP team and MHW sourcing team to evaluate supplier performance and build solutions for broad issues that may impact MHW suppliers’ ability to meet compliance standards.
  • Manage the budgeting process for MHW CR by setting budget based on strategic initiatives, and travel needs.  Manage budget throughout the year including providing timely reporting.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in social or environmental responsibility.
  • Degree in Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Social Sciences, Business, Management, Engineering, or a field related to Social/Environmental responsibility.
  • Experience in public relations preferred.
  • Fluent in Spanish or Mandarin helpful.
