Coordinator, Green Innovation and Learning Programs

The University of Oregon is a world-class public teaching and research university of 23,000 students located in Eugene, UO is the flagship institution of the Oregon University System and one of only two AAU universities in the Greater Northwest.

Position Overview:

This Coordinator will develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate curricular and outreach programs of the Green Chemistry Innovation and Learning Center and the Green Product Design Network, collectively referred to as the Green Innovation and Learning Programs. The mission of the Green Chemistry Innovation and Learning Center is to advance research and education practices and infuse green chemistry into the discipline, across related disciplines, into the professions and through K-12 education. The Green Product Design Network aims to accelerate the introduction of green products into the market through an integrative approach involving chemistry, product design, sustainable business practices, green marketing and communications and related disciplines.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum development:

The coordinator will work with university faculty, staff and students to:

• Develop, implement and evaluate educational curricula and materials for infusing green chemistry and green product design into K-12 and university level courses.
• Develop materials needed for and conduct workshops to disseminate green chemistry curricula and related materials.

Project coordination:

The coordinator will oversee and coordinate collaborative projects between the programs and on- and off-campus partners:

• Foster partnerships with other colleges within the university to develop curricula for new courses that integrate green chemistry and sustainability principles with other relevant disciplines such as product design and journalism, and support the integration of green chemistry in K-12 education programs
• Coordinate projects with other programs on and off campus
• Coordinate with UO faculty and staff to disseminate findings and work products

Project management and planning:

The coordinator will administer the programs and collaborate with their leadership teams, faculty and staff to:

• Plan, execute and evaluate the programs projects related to integrating green chemistry, product design and sustainability with other relevant disciplines across the university
• Lead on-going strategic planning for the programs
• Facilitate regular leadership team meetings
• Conduct program assessments
• Act as the primary administrative contact for each of the programs

Fundraising:

The coordinator will work with the programs' leadership teams to pursue grant and other funding for ongoing curriculum building and outreach programs. This includes proposal development, proposal preparation and reporting activities.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

• Master's degree in Education
• A thorough understanding of green chemistry education and training and hands-on experience working on green chemistry education projects
• Evidence of independent curriculum writing experience and proficiency coordinating educator professional development trainings
• Formal training and demonstrated experience in project management. Experience managing multiple and multifaceted projects.
• Foundation, state or federal fundraising experience with evidence of significant funding achievements
• Excellent writing and presentation skills demonstrated through publications and professional presentations
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, with excellent communication and organizational skills
• Knowledge of and experience using information technology, content management systems, productivity tools and other applicable technologies

Preferred:

• Experience working in K-12 classroom settings and with state and national education standards as well as leading educational reform efforts.
• Knowledge of sustainability issues in business, education, journalism and chemistry-related professions
• National and international connections in the green chemistry community across NGO's, government entities, education institutions and industry
• Experience working with diverse populations

Compensation: Salary range: $55,000-$70,000

Starting date: June 1, 2011 (projected)
