Established in 1956, IFC is the largest multilateral source of loan and equity financing for private sector projects in the developing world.
Job Overview:
The consultant will support the IFC task manager in the implementation of a US$5m technical assistance facility to help commercial banks downscale into microfinance. The Facility operates globally, but focuses on Africa.
The position is flexible with respect to weekly time commitment, though a minimum average of 20 hours/week is required. The person would be based in Washington D.C.
Contract period is February 1 to July 30, 2006. Good possibilities for extension and increased responsibilities if person performs well.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process project financing proposals under the Facility;
- Continuously coordinate with the Facility partner, including pipeline and ongoing project activities;
- Liaise directly with local sponsors/banks interested in accessing funds from the Facility;
- The implementation of projects, and manage external evaluations of projects when necessary;
- Prepare and process disbursements under the Facility;
- Prepare quarterly reports on Facility activities, results and expenditures;
- Handle and resolve other operational and administrative issues related to the Facility.
Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
- Masters degree in economics, international affairs or business administration;
- 1-3 years experience in designing, preparing or implementing technical assistance projects;
- 1-3 years experience in microfinance;
- Good communication and organizational skills, as demonstrated by previous experience in managing client and consultant relationships;
- Comfortable with financial statement analysis;
- Good language skills, including high level of written English.
