Reports to: Director of Conservation
Earthwatch Institute is an international, non-profit organization which engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment.
This position will support the Conservation department by working with the director to implement, coordinate and communicate the growth of Conservation Research Initiatives (CRIs).
Responsibilities:
* Support and Coordinate Communication and Marketing about the CRIs
* Manage assessment and reporting for Conservation Research Initiatives
* Support Development of new CRIs
* Assist Director of Conservation to manage existing and develop new Conservation Research Initiatives in coordination with other EWI departments.
* Serve as liaison between field directors and Maynard office
* Coordinate development of capacity building and community participation fellowships
Specific duties:
Support and Coordinate Communication and Marketing about the CRIs
* Coordination with appropriate departments
* Supply content and media about CRIs to marketing, publications and field management departments for web site, catalogues, monthly e-newsletter for members, "Conservation News" website, media opportunities (incl. procuring images/graphics from scientists/partners as needed)
* Help develop media strategy (brochures, web, video, NGS, etc), and support marketing effort for CRI projects.
Manage assessment and reporting of CRIs
* Coordinate and support the production of annual reports for each CRI.
* Manage the evaluation of CRIs by coordinating with Director of Conservation, field directors, program directors and relevant staff. Assessment and reporting will include volunteer experience, PI experience, science and conservation outputs at Initiatives.
* Support production of quarterly newsletters for CRIs
Support Development of new CRIs
* Support new Field Director in development of the Belize CRI, to include coordination with other Earthwatch Departments, program development, and the development of new projects
* Help write scoping reports for CRI, and with staff presentations
Support community fellowship program
* Work with Community Fellows Coordinator and Education department and field directors to support fellows program - including placement needs, projections, fundraising, evaluation and reporting.
Manage partnerships
* Help to draft elements of MOU and Program agreements.
* Monitor and coordinate EWI activities against stipulations in program agreements (e.g. media access, co-branding, news releases, etc).
* Help to organize workshops/meetings with partners and scientists as required.
General support and serve as liaison between field directors and Maynard office
* Support communication with field directors.
* Facilitate monthly meetings, and monthly reports from field directors.
* Ensure that field directors are integrated into Earthwatch and are apprised of events at headquarters and affiliate offices.
* Coordinate CRIs and conservation programs with other EWI departments (e.g. marketing, development, Field Operations and Management, etc.).
* Support financial accounting, budgeting and international travel of field directors.
* Coordinate development of CRI workshops, and support write of follow-up reports.
Other?
* Earthwatch Annual Conference -- a variety of support is needed, depending on the structure of our internal support and the conference
* Support and prepare for conferences and meetings -- gather materials needed, help with poster preparation or PowerPoint presentations (e.g., get specific pictures from photo archives) ?
* Post-conference follow-up -- emails and/or follow-up mailings to attendees
* Expected to travel occasionally for CRI needs
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or related field required; Master's degree and/or significant experience in conservation, research, and community development preferred
* Experience managing people and projects to deliver programs on-the-ground
* Field research experience preferred
* Clear, professional, and experienced communicator; comfortable corresponding with partners and scientists
* Comfort with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PC databases
* Proven record of strong organizational skills
* Demonstrated proficiency in using internet research resources
* Proven ability to prioritize tasks and plan into the future
* Proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a close knit team
* Proven track record as a self-starter. This position requires someone who will take free time and use it to plan, create, and fill gaps.
* International travel experience and comfort in multi-cultural environments
* Must be flexible and willing to pitch in wherever needed
* Sense of humor
Salary range: $30,000 - $ 34,000 commensurate with experience. Good benefits
