Description

Background:


To promote conservation policy to Scottish institutions and elected
representatives in furtherance of RSPB's policy objectives, and support
regional involvements in planning casework. To lead on RSPB Scotland's
involvements in the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and its implementation. In
addition, the postholder will lead on providing support to RSPB Scotland's
regional staff in Planning casework. Will also provide support to the Planning
and Development Manager in respect to advocacy on Planning Policy.


Duties:

  1. To monitor and seek to influence the implementation, of the Scottish
    Biodiversity Strategy.
  2. To co-ordinate RSPB Scotland's involvement in the Scottish Biodiversity
    Forum and its working groups, including representing the Society on its LBAP
    group.
  3. To co-ordinate and provide technical support to RSPB Scotland's regional
    staff in relation to their involvement in Planning casework.
  4. To provide support, to the Planning and Development Manager, in relation
    to advocacy of RSPB's planning policies.

The postholder will work with policy staff at SHQ and in the Scottish regions,
will be able to advise on RSPB involvement in the above issues and will
present a professional image of the RSPB in all external contacts, including
to media and Scottish Parliamentary contacts as appropriate.


Other Duties:

  1. Keep relevant staff, in Scotland and elsewhere, informed about current
    work.
  2. Handle any Conservation Policy work referred to the postholder by the
    Planning and Development Manager.
  3. Keep in touch with other relevant RSPB work, particularly Research and
    Advisory.
  4. Give talks to outside organisations and Members Groups on RSPB's
    conservation work.
  5. Play a normal part in the general activities of SHQ, eg staff conferences,
    etc.
