~ The Kalamazoo Conservation District (KDC) is a governmental agency established under state law to carry out programs for conservation, use and development of soil, water, and related resources at the local level. ~
At KCD, we partner with federal and state agencies to coordinate and implement conservation and environmental programs throughout the community. We have capabilities in resource protection, development and management.
These abilities have equipped us to be catalysts in bringing together facets of the community that will benefit from a united undertaking to address resource problems and needs.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Conservation District Manager to conduct the business of the Kalamazoo Conservation District, supervise Conservation District staff, provide customer assistance, prepare monthly budget reports, and maintain correspondence.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, possess a strong attention to detail, and exhibit the ability to work as part of a team in support of several programs. This is currently a part-time position of 20 hours per week, with the potential to become a full time position if additional grants become awarded over time.
Responsibilities
Other essential duties include:
- Maintaining District financial accounts according to Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development guidelines;
- Establishing annual budgets;
- Conducting public presentations and meetings;
- Identifying grant opportunities and preparing grant proposals, grant administration; and
- Assisting with financial audits.
Qualifications
Essential Skills:
- Ability to work in Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Bookkeeping and accounting in QuickBooks
- Personnel and payroll management
- Typing and operation of office equipment
- Ability to learn and follow government procedures and other legal requirements
- Phone etiquette and message-taking
- Note-taking for meetings
- Staff supervision
Preferred Skills:
- Grant writing and grant administration experience
- Retail sales and marketing (Tree seedlings, Books, Birdhouses, T-shirts)
- Familiarity with agriculture and natural resource issues
- Working knowledge of state environmental policies
- Ability to organize information and prioritize tasks
Required Criteria:
- Valid driver's license
- Some experience working in a structured office environment
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting program
- A two or four year degree in a relevant course of study
Compensation Package
- Salary range is $14.00 - 17.00 per hour, depending on training and experience.
- No insurance or fringe benefits are available for this part-time position.
